There’s something rather special about a Norwich wedding.
Maybe it’s the mixture of history and character. Maybe it’s being able to move from beautiful old streets and landmark buildings to contemporary venues, green spaces and relaxed celebrations without ever feeling like you’ve travelled very far.
Or perhaps it’s simply that Norwich has a personality of its own.
At My Norwich Wedding, Norwich isn’t just the place where we happen to work. It’s at the centre of what we’re building: a collection of wedding services designed specifically for couples celebrating their day in our city.
A city full of character
One of the loveliest things about Norwich is that there isn’t really one particular type of “Norwich wedding”.
The city can provide a backdrop for something traditional and elegant, relaxed and informal, modern and contemporary, or completely individual.
Historic architecture sits alongside modern spaces, independent businesses and quieter corners of the city.
That gives couples plenty of opportunity to create a wedding that actually feels like their wedding, rather than having to fit their plans around a particular style.
And for photographs and wedding content, it also means there can be an enormous amount of variety within a relatively small area.
Norwich gives you plenty to work with
A wedding isn’t just about finding a room in which to hold a ceremony.
There are all the other pieces that eventually have to come together: where everybody will celebrate, photographs, food, decorations, entertainment, transport, accommodation, suppliers and all the little details that guests probably never realise had to be organised.
Being a compact city can make some of that considerably easier.
Couples can potentially have their ceremony, reception, photographs and accommodation relatively close together, while guests travelling into Norwich have a range of options available to them.
Of course, every wedding is different — and what works perfectly for one couple might be completely wrong for another.
That’s something we’ll talk about quite a lot in this Journal.
There’s a brilliant local wedding community
Some of the most important people involved in a wedding aren’t the people you’ll see standing at the front of the ceremony.
They’re working quietly behind the scenes.
Photographers, florists, caterers, entertainers, venue teams, cake makers, stylists, transport providers and dozens of other businesses can all play their part in creating the finished day.
Norwich has a fantastic community of independent businesses and wedding professionals, and one of the things we’d like The Norwich Wedding Journal to do is introduce more of them.
Over time, we’ll be featuring local suppliers, visiting venues and talking about some of the businesses involved in Norwich weddings.
We’d much rather help couples discover good local businesses than turn the Journal into one long advertisement for ourselves.
Your wedding doesn’t have to follow a formula
There’s sometimes an enormous amount of pressure surrounding weddings.
You should have this.
You must do that.
Apparently everybody needs a particular decoration this year because somebody on social media said so.
We don’t really believe in that.
Traditions can be wonderful when they mean something to you. But your wedding isn’t a checklist that needs to be completed correctly.
Don’t want a huge guest list? Fine.
Don’t want a traditional wedding cake? Don’t have one.
Want jars full of your favourite childhood sweets instead? We happen to know some people. 😉
Want a huge celebration? Brilliant.
Want something intimate with the people you care about most? That’s brilliant too.
The best weddings aren’t necessarily the most expensive or elaborate ones.
They’re the ones where you can recognise the couple in the choices they’ve made.
And that’s where My Norwich Wedding comes in
We created My Norwich Wedding around a fairly simple idea.
Couples shouldn’t necessarily have to go searching all over Norwich for completely separate businesses every time they need another bit of help with their wedding.
Under My Norwich Wedding, there are several specialist services:
Love Story Wedding Planners provides professional wedding planning for couples who want help creating and organising their celebration — whether that’s comprehensive end-to-end planning or support with particular parts of the process.
The Wedding Manager concentrates on the wedding day itself, helping make sure plans become reality while the couple gets on with actually enjoying their wedding.
Norwich Wedding Styling works on the visual side of the celebration, helping transform venues and bring styling ideas together.
The Wedding Content Studio captures the day through wedding content and photography, preserving both the big moments and everything happening around them.
And Norwich Wedding Sweets provides sweet tables, wedding treats, favours and personalised sweet extras for couples who want to add something a little sweeter to their celebration.
Couples can use one service or combine several of them.
The important part is that you choose what you actually need.
What you’ll find in The Norwich Wedding Journal
This Journal isn’t going to be a giant instruction manual telling you exactly how your wedding should be planned.
That would rather miss the point.
Instead, we’ll use it to explore weddings in and around Norwich.
We’ll be looking at local venues, wedding ideas, real celebrations, suppliers, photography, styling, food and treats, wedding-day logistics and some of the questions couples regularly find themselves asking.
There’ll also be reviews and venue features — and when something is genuinely a review based on our own experience, we’ll make that clear.
Sometimes we’ll simply share things we think are interesting.
Because weddings aren’t only spreadsheets, schedules and supplier contracts.
They’re about people.
Norwich is home
There are some extraordinary wedding destinations around the country and around the world.
But we think Norwich deserves celebrating too.
It’s historic without feeling trapped in the past. It’s a city without being overwhelming. There are beautiful surroundings, fantastic independent businesses and an enormous amount of personality packed into a relatively small place.
Most importantly, it’s home.
And we’re looking forward to sharing much more of Norwich’s wedding world with you.
